Enhancing the Workhorse of Photovoltaics: Silicon Solar Cells

Silicon remains the most established and widely used material in the solar industry due to its stability, abundance, and mature fabrication technology. Our group’s research focuses on improving the efficiency, surface passivation, and light management in crystalline silicon (c-Si) and amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells.

Key Research Areas:

  • High-quality passivation using SiNx:H, Al₂O₃, and hybrid stacks
  • Surface texturing for enhanced light trapping
  • Investigation of heterojunction (HJT) and TOPCon structures
  • Defect analysis and minority carrier lifetime enhancement
  • Integration of thin-film coatings to form tandem Si–thin film devices

Goal:
To combine the robustness of silicon with innovations from thin-film technologies, creating hybrid solutions that push the limits of efficiency and affordability.
